The leaves we found with red and yellow and orange and black reminded us of dragons. The children called them "dragon leaves' and used them as spikes and fire and other parts of a dragon.
Back in the classroom it was a good opportunity to ask them about dragons, to assess their understanding and for them to share their knowledge.
We used the leaves along with pens to build a group dragon. Children took turns to place leaves or draw as they discussed the features needed to build a dragon. They collaborated well; each enjoying their turn and respecting their friends contribution.
Some children brought books about dragons from home to share with the group.
The children are making their own card game on a dragon theme.
